Balance Active Formula Skincare – Budget Skincare without Compromise!

Hello Beauties,

I have recently been trying out a brand that is new to me, called Balance Active Formula Skincare. I have to confess to being a bit of a skincare snob and always wanting what I hope is the most effective products for 47 year old skin.

Well the Balance Active Skincare set is just that. It is very cost effective skincare, without some of the frills, but all of the quality and latest ingredients packed in.

It can be found in Savers, Home Bargains, Fragrance Direct and Just Beauty. I am honestly surprised by how good this is! I thought it might not be enough for my thirsty skin, but it was very skin nourishing and light on the skin too. It sank in really well and left my skin soft to the touch and hydrated. These qualities are a must have in any skincare product for me. At 47, most important is hydration!

So the first item is Bye Bye Tired Eyes; it is a lovely light, cooling gel like texture, a nice wake up for the eyes in the morning. It has Syn-Ake Venom & active levels levels of Eyepro 3x in. It brightens, refreshes and helps with under eye dark circles, but most importantly it firms and nourishes. I was really surprised how good it was, I felt it helped firm and brighten my whole under eye area and what value at just £2.99!

So my next item is the Wrinkle-Freeze Serum with again Syn-Ake @ 4%, a synthetic form of snake venom. It helps relax the deeper face muscles and when they relax our faces look less tense, more relaxed and youthful. The serum is light, easy to apply and there is a real cooling and freshness to these products that I like.

This serum aims to relax facial muscles, reduce frown lines & crow’s feet. It felt soft & cooling, absorbed into the skin really well. Impressed again!

Lastly is the Instant Effect Wrinkle Killer and it is like a balm that goes on top of everything that gives an immediate  ‘flash effect’  lifting and smoothing line filler. It again has the active Syn-ake formula, MATRIXYL & Synthe. Packed full of active ingredients this has caught my interest the most, as it gives powerful skincare results through the day. It is light, fresh, skin nourishing with a great delivery system and I get a slight tingle with it approx £4.74.

It is full of wrinkle relaxing and plumping peptides, that tackle anti-aging on the face by relaxing the facial expression muscles and plumping the skin from underneath, making you look younger, brighter and fresher.

You can use this by patting it over areas you want to treat, like crow’s feet, nasolabial lines and any wrinkles you want to treat. It can also be used on the neck and chest to smooth out sun damage and wrinkles there too, just £3.49!

Over time, the longer you use these products, the better the results you will get on your skin. I thought I would try these products and think ‘meh’ but I don’t. I have to think it is very clever and a very affordable price range for all.

Oh and it is also paraben free, most important, so it will not cause a lot of skin irritations that some creams do .. this range is not to be snuffed at! It is a hard working synergy of products to help you battle the daily process of ageing!

That is it for now folks!

Take care,

Nicola x

Kiss The Moon LOVE Night Cream For Hands

Hey Beauties,

Been a while since my last post .. it would seem anaemia gave me a bit of a sabbatical but onwards and upwards eh!

Kiss the Moon I have wanted to try for quite some time, as their oils are all natural and aimed at getting you a really good night’s sleep. As someone with a full list of sleep issues, I thought I would try some samples a while back and fell completely in love with their LOVE Night Cream for hands … oh and they are British (I love to support Uk brands)!

IMG_20170427_090935911 (2)

Their Nighttime Hand Cream is a new product by them and full of Shea Butter, Rosehip Oil, Rosewater, Coconut Oil and Olive Oil so it really packs a punch on dry skin. With no parabens or sulphates the cream just sinks quickly and completely into your skin

The Love Hand Cream and Oils are aimed at anti-ageing as well as sleep (thats moi) and with a blend of Rose, renowned for calming skin and the mind, Frankincense, a natural mood lifter and Ylang Ylang to promote peace and relax, it smells beautiful.

The hand cream smells divine, not overpowering as I find some and too strong a whiff of essential oils can actually wake you up, by stimulating the mind instead of relaxing it. So this is a beautiful mellow blend and I adore the fragrance from my very first use.

The second thing I noticed about this hand cream was that unlike some (ok a lot) I found it to be very nourishing on my hands. I often get contact dermatitis and eczema on my hands and this soothed and nourished them overnight and that is what sold me on this cream , so much so that I had to invest.

It goes on like a rich mousse and quickly sinks into the skin .. no oily hands for hours after. It goes in and gets to work on nourishing and healing and it definitely helps me and my thirsty skin.

The aroma of delicate Rose, Frankincense & Ylang Ylang is so soft and mellow, it is really beautiful. My hands feel and look more nourished and I am just completely sold on this hand night treatment and the fragrance. I got a 15% off email where they asked for some feedback, so I bought the hand cream with that and sent them a message, telling them how much I loved it and what a lovely company and very humble people to talk to.

They were so pleased and sent me out a few more samples of their oils to try, plus the sugar scrub, which is made with brown sugar, so it smells deep and decadent and leaves skin super smooth.

I think that the LOVE Face Oil will be my next investment for sure, as that scent just totally wins my senses over. You can check them out here: Kiss the Moon

That’s it for now peeps ..

back soon I hope

Colours by The Ordinary Launches Early April…. Yippee!

Hello everyone & hello Spring!

Not only have Deciem/Niod/The Ordinary Umbrella opened their first flagship store in London, but they will in a couple of weeks time be releasing their long awaited (impatient much?) Colours makeup range.

Colours will be a range of 2 foundations: 1. Colours Coverage Foundation is thicker in texture and will give the wearer a full coverage look, with spf15 and a semi-matte flawless finish.

2. Colours Skin Serum Foundation gives a sheer coverage, water-like in texture, great for Spring/Summer and this will be what I will be going for. There are lots of water based products on the market right now and I love the sheer, almost transparent look they give to my skin, so very natural and glowy. Again it will give a semi-matte flawless finish and has a built in spf15

There are 21 shades in each range, offering the buyer something to cover just about any skin colour, from very light to very dark. If you cannot get your shade quite right, then the company really goes the extra mile for a customer and will mix one up just for you in your shade!

the-ordinary-colours-foundation-shades-650x593

They will both be under an incredible £6 each and will offer the buyer a high quality foundation at an incredible bargain price. They are designed to rival & be every bit as good as high end foundations and I just cannot wait until they arrive!

Meantime if you are in London and close to the new Deciem store, you can go in and try the foundations as they have samples out .. if you do I shall be incredibly jealous lol ..I will put the address here for handiness if you are in that area –  18 lamb street, Old Spitafields Market.

I just know, that like everything Deciem does, the Colours range will not only be an instant hit with customers, it is also going to completely take the beauty world by storm and shake it up! (again)

If you would like to be notified when the foundations go live, then the best place to be signed up to  the waitlist on  Victoria Health here: The Colours Waitlist

Are you looking forward to The Colours going on sale too?

If I can say one thing about Deciem .. there is never a dull moment with what they do, always a rush of excitement and the feeling of new groundbreaking products and ideas!

Bye for now beauties,

Are Beauty Boxes Getting Old? Or Am I getting Fussier …

Hello everyone,

I have been an avid fan of the Beauty Box World for many years, from my very first box by Feel Unique, which I loved. To me it was still the best ever, as it brought me so much fantastic skincare that I wanted to try and it wowed me. But looking back and on their Facebook page, they got such grief about it. If they put skincare in, young girls were yelling at them as they didn’t want or need it and if they put too much makeup in older people were asking for more skincare!

So the surprise beauty box came to an abrupt end! I think Glossybox, which to me is geared at teenagers I always found poor .  Love Lula do a good organic box , but cost comes into play with organic and it tends to be bulked up with lip balms and hand creams which a years  later I am still finding about the place! Both still do a surprise box but for most companies the grief they got every month was just too much!

I wouldn’t fancy working in the Glossybox complaints department .. just sayin!

So now what we mostly have is a choice. Every month boxes like Latest In Beauty, You Beauty,  offer a subscription after a recent re-vamp. It had gotten very stagnant with not many new samples being available or that is how it felt to me. I hope they can keep the flow and not keep putting items from the monthly selection items into their Limited Edition Boxes ggrrr!!

For me I don’t buy a beauty box to get the same products over and over again, I buy it because there is something in there I really want to try. There is an ocean of products out there, please let us have them.

Love Me Beauty won funding on the Dragons Den recently and they have also struck a deal with Debenhams so hopefully some fresh samples coming there. Look Fantastic does a Box now too but it has never appealed to me…yet.

QVC Tili box – first 2 boxes were utterly fabulous, 3rd box was a big let down. Really hope they pick it up again as it is their way of reeling in the youth to their company and what they can do.

When beauty boxes get big, they tend to lose out on samples from smaller niche brands and I wish this wasn’t so, as these are the things I love to try. Organic products too lose out as they can just be too expensive to put into a beauty box. Balance is needed but everywhere I look I am not being thrilled by what I see.

Am I being more fussy now or does the whole beauty box world need a serious  overhaul?

Somewhere in our demand to now choose the samples ourselves, I think there is now a bottleneck with items we have all had before, clogging up the selection. I can see how that is bad for both customer and company alike, but how do they solve the problem?

I just want some new things to be wooed by! So in all my thinking about this and a conversation with Sandra @ Beauty Balm Blog about beauty boxes ..I think we need a 40+ box with targeted skincare and makeup products to try. The samples are out there, so surely companies would be jumping at the market?

I must mention the one box that is really working for me right now and that is the Perfume Society Box. There is such a wealth of information that comes with this box: It is a journey into fragrance that I would not or could never have taken, if not for these boxes. It comes beautifully packaged and is always full of new exciting fragrances from top fragrance houses, with some smaller niche perfume brands in the mix to try as well. They have the mix just right.

img_20170304_140853984_hdr-2

40+ customers have the most money to spend on beauty and if they like the products and see results they won’t be scared to really invest in that full size product if it works for them!

Let us see other smaller niche brands as well as the big ones that are working so much harder to please us! I appreciate smaller brands could not do large numbers but give them a chance to show what they do and how good it can be …

I am bored, bored, bored with what I am seeing, surely there is some exciting upcoming brands out there that need introduced to people? Or international brands wanting to break into the UK?

I don’t want to look at a monthly selection and see same, same, same … yawn! Some of the earlier beauty boxes were amazing, I would love to see a real return to this too.

Anyway would love to hear anyone’s thoughts on the Beauty Box subscription world …

Yours .. beauty boxed out ..

What’s in a lipstick Shade/Tone?

Hello everyone,

A bit of a rant today which I rarely do, but I feel I really need to in this case, as it was a high end product and a bit of a considered purchase for me. When I or anyone else buy a lipstick, we are all looking for that specific shade that catches our eye and we want it because .. it is the one for me!

The world is full of lipsticks and lipstick shades and we have our choice of hundreds or thousands. So when I saw the Charlotte Tilbury lipstick in Kidman’s Kiss, I thought it was stunning; the most beautiful pink toned lipstick I had seen in a long time and I had to have it.

What I got this morning looks nothing like the picture at all; not even remotely like the shade on the model and that makes me cross as I was so looking forward to this lipstick.

Charlotte Tilbury is considered to be one of the world’s best makeup artists and if anyone can nail a shade I would like it think she could do that! But sadly not in this instance, the colour is completely off and to be honest the formula goes on a bit patchy too. I put some primer on my hands to get my picture too. Below are the images from the website and the shade I of course selected in Kidman’s Kiss and a couple of pictures from home. One is a swatch of said lipstick.

I am gutted this was not the colour represented online and that the shade is so completely different to the one in the photos. It cost £24.00 and is completely different to what I thought I was ordering. I do not know how companies can do this to people. You buy in good faith, only to be so let down when the product arrives. Well I guess that is all I have to say about that really ..

Just to add I did however get some really good customer service on this from the CT website and I really appreciate that.

Bye for now folks..

By for now folks,

yours very disappointed ….

Win a Fabulous Set of Bio-Extracts Super Booster Serums!

Hello Beauties,

Bio-Extracts, if you have not heard of these potent vegan boosters and the goodness of plant power, then this is a fabulous opportunity to win a set to try!

They are super light easily absorbed formulas and they can be slotted into any routine. They put you in charge of your skincare and what your skin needs on a daily basis.

These boosters are a lot different to a regular serum, they are many times more powerful than just a serum. They use phospholipids which gives them a unique delivery system to make sure they don’t sit on the skin’s surface. They sink straight in and work on preparing and healing your skin from the inside out .. in other words the longer you use them your skin will just get better and better!

The Prize consists of –

Firming Boost: I use on my number 11’s and from the cheekbones down over my neck, as that is where I need firming most .. below cheeks, under chin, neck and around my mouth. I can feel this working and have done from my very first use.

Anti-Oxidant Boost: This works on stressed skin, should it be the stresses of weather, life or environmental toxin in the air that can really affect the skin. This strengthens and protects the skins natural barrier.

Glow Boost: .. to beat the winter dullness of our skins! This intensive illuminating serum I use as an overnight treatment, under my regular serums and creams. It works to bring oxygen to the skin, it really brightens your skin and it really works to revitalise and refresh skin, putting your glow back.

The set comes with some skincare samples and a lovely soft vegan-leather bag. I use these serums every day and they have pretty much an overnight effect on the skin and really get it looking so nourished .
